DAY,    TRACEY CLARON JONES
"Born 5-5-55," she would cheerfully reply when asked about her birthday. She was born in Summit, N.J., and died Monday. Dec. 1, 2003, at Woman's Hospital in Baton Rouge. She was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. She thoroughly enjoyed the Southern cuisine and people. She praised the care given her as she fought bravely a nightmare disease. This great gardener, homemaker, loving wife, loving mother, loving sister, and a loving daughter artfully dropped her beautifully designed petals everywhere she graced in her wonderful life. Tracey was loved dearly by her friends and family. Her beautiful face reflected the beauty of her inner being. The void she leaves cannot be replaced. Enthusiasm bursting from a glad heart was in motion from the beginning of an idea on any subject. The Junior League of which she was an active member in the past must have surely missed her when she took off time to be a full-time wife and mother. She graduated from LSU to serve as a medical technologist at the Baton Rouge Clinic. It was here that she met Harry Kean Day Jr., M.D., and soon they were married. They have just celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary … Years of great joy!!!! One of her greatest joys was their daughter, who she has said many time should have been named Joy for she has brought so much joy to all. She and her husband worked in Scouting for their son as well as many other young boys helping them to become good citizens and great Americans. There are many other unsung areas of Tracey's life that are not known but that was her nature. There truly was a sweet spirit within her and she blessed us all, Dr. Kenneth Elliott Jones (her father), Mary Carolyn Reinhardt Jones (her mother) and brothers Charles Jones and Richard Reinhardt Jones (deceased) had in their lives one of God's angels who loved them and cared deeply for all of them. Her loyalty knew no boundaries. Tracey felt very blessed with a devoted and loving husband and two precious children, William Chase (Sinquefield) Day and Allison Grace Day. She fought the good fight and she fought bravely and very hard but disease had its way. Throughout this ordeal she kept her blitheful spirit and wit. God now has another very beautiful angel to sit by his throne!!! Visiting was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003. Visiting at First Presbyterian from 1 p.m. until religious service at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003. Officiating are the Rev. Garnett Slatton from River Community Church and the Rev. Russ Stevenson from First Presbyterian. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Harry Kean Day Jr.; a son, William Chase Day; a daughter, Allison Grace Day; her father, Dr. Kenneth Elliott Jones; mother, Mary Carolyn Reinhardt Jones; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Elizabeth Jones; her in-laws who loved her dearly, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kean Day Sr., Dr. Richard Harold Day and wife Leize, Dr. and Mrs. Harold Lynn (Edna) Rodgers; and five nieces, Dr. Jennifer Jean Day and husband Rob Schott, Katherine Anne Day, Holly Ruth Day, Lindsay Kay Rodgers and Laurel Kathleen Rodgers. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Reinhardt Jones. Pallbearers will be Murray Howard, Kelly Dorn, Jim Geiser, Richard Day, Charles Jones, Frank Loughran, Paul Jack and Frank Campbell. Honorary Pallbearers, Dr. D.J. Albergamo, Tom Dantoni, Bob Raymond, Dr. Harold Lynn Rodgers, Dr. Jed Morris, and James Davidson. Memorial donations may be made to the River Community Church in her honor, 36367 Perkins Road., Prairieville, LA 70769, or on the Web, http://www.rivercommunity.org. With special thanks to all who are listed below and many more for the outpouring of energy, love, and sacrifice, we (all the Day Family and Carolyn) praise God for you: Dr. Giles Fort, Dr. Frederic Billings and staff, Dr. Joe Albergamo, Woman's Hospital Oncology and the Baton Rouge Clinic. To all the blessed people throughout the city of Baton Rouge from different denominations, schools etc., we are deeply thankful for your gifts of time, prayers and all your services of support. We especially thank our 24-hour angel who stood over Tracey and held her with great tenderness, Rhonda Guillot.

Darryl K. Sykes

Following graduation from Broadmoor High, Darryl joined the Air Force. He married Miranda, and had a son, Darryl K. Sykes II. On November 21, 1979, while serving our country and stationed at England Air Force Base, Darryl and his family were traveling to Baton Rouge to spend Thanksgiving with their family. While en route, Darryl and Miranda were hit head on by a drunk driver and were killed instantly. Their son, 18 months old, was seriously injured, but by the grace of God survived. Darryl's parents raised their grandson, Keith, who presently is a student at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond.

The Class of 1973 remembers Darryl and mourns his loss at such a young age of 24.

We also remember our classmates Dan Carlock, Charles Dabadie, Jasper Dooley, Ricky Gill, and Sammy Jacobs.
